What is MVHR?
The inclusion of an MVHR system in a new-build house is critical to consider, as high air-tightness levels of modern properties can make mechanical forms of air change a necessity. The principles of how a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system (MVHR) works are simple: contaminated stale air is continuously replaced by warmed, fresh, filtered air. Importantly, a highly efficient heat exchanger is used to recover approximately 90% of the stale air’s heat and transfers it to the incoming air. The end result is a high-performance ventilation system that keeps your home supplied with clean, fresh air without the need for natural ventilation.

What are the benefits of MVHR?
Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems play a crucial role in enhancing energy efficiency within buildings, particularly in the context of renewable energy. One of the primary benefits of MVHR is its ability to significantly reduce heating demands by recovering heat from stale air before it is expelled, thus utilising this energy to warm incoming fresh air. This process diminishes reliance on conventional heating sources, making it easier to integrate renewable energy solutions such as solar thermal.
Additionally, MVHR systems help maintain optimal indoor air quality, which is essential for occupant health and comfort, while simultaneously lowering energy bills by minimising energy losses.
